Astrology is how half of India starts its day. We wanted it to start honestly.

Vidya is built by Brewhouse, a small product studio in Kolkata. We grew up in homes where the panchang sat next to the newspaper and a family astrologer was a phone call away. Those homes have smartphones now — but the apps they got were either a wall of ads or a paywall in front of a pandit on a per-minute meter.

We think the daily part of astrology — your horoscope, today’s tithi and nakshatra, the good and bad hours, the festival, a mantra — should be free, in your own language, and readable by your mother without her glasses. And when you have a real question, you should get a real answer from your own chart, not a horoscope column dressed up as one.
